Vee blocks can be used to hold round parts horizontally under a mill or drill press. This is useful if you need to machine through the body of a metal cylinder or pipe.
Step 1 – Position your stock
Position your stock in the V-channel of the vee block and turn the threaded nut of the clamp until it makes contact with the workpiece.
The part should now be held firmly in place.
If you are working with a particularly long cylindrical workpiece, you may need to use more than one block.
Step 2 – Install your vee block
Install the vee block in the vice or T-slots of the machine. The block should be sitting horizontally, so that the longest face of the block is parallel to the table of the machine.
You are now ready to begin machining your workpiece.
