Ratchet-handle pipe cleaners come in two sizes to reflect the most commonly used diameters of copper pipe.
The first size will fit pipes of 15mm (½”) diameter. The tool is about 245mm (9½”) long, 135mm (5″) wide (from the tip of the external wire brush to the bristle-lined head) and 60mm (9½”) deep. It weighs 109g (3.8oz).
The second size is designed for pipes of 22mm (¾”) diameter. This tool measures 245mm x 135mm x 50mm (9½” x 5″ x 2″) and weighs 141g (5oz).
Why do copper pipes come in different sizes?
Small pipes of 15mm diameter are a convenient size for connecting to individual appliances, such as boilers and taps.
Larger diameter, 22mm pipes are used for longer runs around the building because they allow greater water flow.
Do you need to buy both sizes of pipe cleaner?
The head is designed to fit only one size of pipe, so if you are working with pipes of different diameters you will need to keep both sizes of cleaner in your toolbox.
