Before you can use your brick line, you need to build the corner leads of your brick wall. Building the corner leads first means you can use the step-like layers as a guide to filling in the levels of your brick wall. The foundations you are laying onto should already be level, but as you lay your corner leads check with a spirit level to make sure the bricks are aligned. The brick line will help you keep everything level as you fill in the rows between your two corners.
Step 1 – Anchor pin
Once you have built the corner leads of your wall, anchor a line pin at one end.
Step 2 – Attach brick line
Once the pin is secure, attach the brick line by either tying it to the pin or wrapping around the pin’s shaft. (A brick pin can be simply pushed into wet mortar or hammered in if the mortar is set).
Step 3 – Secure line
Pull the brick line taut and secure it to a line pin or line block at the opposite corner lead.
Step 4 – Check height
The line should create a level reference line along the top corner of the bricks on the level that you are currently laying.
Step 5 – Lay bricks
Now that the brick line is in position you can lay your bricks with ease, knowing that they are all aligned properly.
Step 6 – Move line up
Once you have finished that level of bricks, move the brick line up a level and repeat the process.
